Dr. Cowles holds a B.Sc. degree in Applied Biology from Georgia Institute of Technology,
Atlanta Georgia, a M.Sc. degree in Environmental Engineering Sciences from University of
Florida, Gainesville, Florida, and a Ph.D. degree in Biology from McGill University, Montral,
Québec. Dr. Cowles has 18 years experience in scientific endeavors, 9 of them in the
genomics field.
Prior to co-founding BioInfoGen, Dr. Cowles was Associate Director of the Production
Informatics Group at Incyte Genomics. The Production Informatics Group comprised 30 people
and managed an annual budget of $10M. The group was responsible for planning,
implementation, and maintenance of the major informatics applications servicing the
production division at Incyte Genomics. These applications included:
- laboratory information management systems (LIMS)
- total computer infrastructure environment
- all heterogeneous file system services
- laboratory automation and integration services
- web, database and systems security
- non-database applications
In addition to serving as CTO, Dr. Cowles is a member of the board of directors.
